Welcome to the Transylvania County Parks & Recreation Website!

Transylvania County is the home of endless recreational opportunities. Over one-third of the county's 379 square miles is comprised of National and State Forest land. The Blue Ridge Parkway, the French Broad River and over 250 waterfalls are among the most popular tourist destinations in the eastern United States.

The Transylvania County Parks and Recreation Department offers a number of recreational opportunities to our 29,000 residents. The department maintains and operates seven parks in the county and offers numerous athletic, arts/leisure, and fitness programs available to people of all ages.

Mission Statement: The mission of Transylvania County Parks & Recreation is to provide recreational and cultural opportunities as well as park facilities to the residents of Transylvania County.

**Once again it is time to make your reservations for the Transylvania Activity Center. Reservations for December, January, and February can be made beginning on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 8:00am.

*Any weather related cancellations will be posted on the home page (to the right). Decisions regarding cancellations for evening activities are made after 4:00pm.

*To listen to the latest news at the Parks & Recreation Department tune into WSQL 1240 AM on Fridays at 3:05pm for Rick's Rec.

Program Registration

*Registration for Bob Ross Oil Painting classes, instructed by Pete Ferry, is open for an upcoming class on December 6. To register, please call 884-3156. Class size is limited.

*Registration for the Masters (ages 35+) and Seniors (ages 50+) Basketball leagues will begin on October 27. Games are scheduled to begin in early December. Call 884-3156 to register.

*The 2nd organizational meeting for Church Basketball will be held on Monday, December 8 at 6:30pm at the TAC. All participating churches must have a representative at this meeting.

*Breakfast with Santa will be held at the TAC on Saturday, December 13 from 9-11am. This program is for children ages 6 and under. To register please call 884-3156. Space is limited to the first 60 kids that register.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

**We are pleased to announce the Winter Time Walking program will begin on December 1 from 7:30am to 9:00am. This program is for all ages and is free of charge. For more information please CLICK HERE.

**The TAC gymnasium will be closed from 11/24 - 11/30. The gym floor will be refinished during this time. The gym will reopen on Monday, December 1.

**Breakfast with Santa will be held at the TAC on Saturday, December 13 from 9-11am for children ages 6 and under.
