Welcome to the Transylvania County Parks & Recreation Website!

Transylvania County is the home of endless recreational opportunities. Over one-third of the county's 379 square miles is comprised of National and State Forest land. The Blue Ridge Parkway, the French Broad River and over 250 waterfalls are among the most popular tourist destinations in the eastern United States.

The Transylvania County Parks and Recreation Department offers a number of recreational opportunities to our 29,000 residents. The department maintains and operates seven parks in the county and offers numerous athletic, arts/leisure, and fitness programs available to people of all ages.

*Any weather related cancellations will be posted on the home page (to the right). Decisions regarding cancellations for evening activities are made after 4:00pm.

*To listen to the latest news at the Parks & Recreation Department tune into WSQL 1240 AM on Fridays at 3:05pm for Rick's Rec.

*We are introducing three new Children's Creative Art classes for boys and girls in grades K-5th. A one day, 3 hour class will be offered on Saturday, September 6 and 2 four-day classes will be offered beginning on September 9 and September 11. Program Registration

*Registration for the Fall Adult Co-Ed Volleyball will begin on July 28 and extend through August 29, 2008. Games will begin in early September. Call 884-3156 to register.

*Bob Ross Oil Painting class, instructed by Pete Ferry, will be held on August 30, 9-4pm at the Transylvania Activity Center. To register or for more information please call 884-3156. The class size is limited.

*Jim Morrison will be teaching a variety of watercolor classes in August and September. To learn more about these classes, please visit the Arts & Leisure section.

*TYSA Soccer (Fall 2008) games will begin on Saturday, September 13. The schedules will be posted here on September 5, 2008.

**Transylvania Youth Council registration will be on Sept. 9. Call 884-3156 for more information.

**Girls Youth Volleyball will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

**Adult Co-Ed Volleyball games will begin on Monday, September 15. Schedules will be posted on this site on September 10.

**TYSA Fall Soccer games will begin on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008.
